I never wanted to open a business

Yes, you read that right. I never envisioned this 10 years ago. Not even 5 years ago. So how did we get here? We weren’t even living in Indianapolis or Zionsville area yet!

I think it all began about 8-9 years ago. We were at my niece’s birthday party, held at a LARGE indoor playground in Ohio. We noticed just how much the kids loved the space, how much fun they were all having but then we looked around and noticed the adults too. They were not having a great time overall. There was almost no seating for adults, there were no drinks or snacks for adults. It seemed that the playground had completely forgotten that adults also needed to exist in their space and be comfortable too! As we visited more playgrounds over the years, we noticed that this was a common theme. Indoor playgrounds existed to entertain kids and almost none of them catered to adults at all.

Enter: the play cafe. We had no idea what it was called all of those years ago. I just remember brainstorming together on the drive home from another indoor playground about how “Wouldn’t it be nice to have an indoor playground WITH a coffee shop?” “Wouldn’t it be nice to have an indoor playground WITH comfy seating for adults?” “Wouldn’t it be nice to have an indoor playground WITH tables where adults can sit and work a bit while their kids played?”. And these thoughts floated around our heads for a LONG time. YEARS! Eventually, we had our own kids and began visiting more indoor playgrounds and once again were met with the reality that most indoor playgrounds were simply not designed with adults in mind. About 1 year ago we began seriously considering opening our own. Our town, Zionsville, needed something like a play cafe. Indianapolis really needs one too! And finally, our family, needed something like a play cafe. If one had already exsisted in our Indiapolis, we would be there ALL THE TIME. But since it doesn’t, I guess we’ll have to be the ones to open one up! We’ve taken a lot of business courses in the last several months in preparation. It’s way more work than we ever anticipated but we’re so excited to be the ones to do this!
